Doc Rivers is one of the NBA’s most recognizable numbers. His achievements across his player and coaching career speak volumes, but his candid commentary puts him in the spotlight.
The veteran coach never holds his opinion back. Rivers recently compared Tyrese Maxey to current MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and coached both talents during his tenure.
Rivers also questioned the New York Knicks’ decision from a coach’s perspective, and gave a “unusual” approval of Tom Thibodeau’s firing.
Doc Rivers has worked with elite organizations throughout his career. The Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Philadelphia 76ers and Milwaukee Bucks have benefited from leadership for 20 years.
The 63-year-old recently revealed that his favorite player will be watching in the NBA. Surprisingly, he chose people who have never coached despite his extensive experience throughout the league.
Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry took the Rivers top spot. The Milwaukee Bucks coach shared a specific reasoning behind his choice during a recent comment.
“If you weren’t coaching in the league, if you liked basketball, I’d watch Steph Curry play every day, in the way I loved it.
“He’s going to do extraordinary things. He’s going to move without the ball.”
Rivers highlighted certain statistics that demonstrate the unique effects of curry. The Warriors’ Championship Run provided a perfect example of the evolution of curry.
“One of my favourite statistics in NBA history was when Steph won the MVP the year he won his first title.
Coach regularly incorporates curry footage into film sessions in Milwaukee. According to Rivers, Giannis Antetokounmpo and other dollar players have accepted these clips.
Rivers placed curry among basketball’s most viewable superstars. The coach referenced Magic Johnson standards for true superstar status.
“I say this term, when we say it, our players are like we watch the movie, our players are persistent, as I say, “The right people, the first clip is the coach P_RN.”
The exclusive list includes LeBron James and Giannis. Rivers emphasized that these players simply direct premium ticket prices through their presence in the courts.
“Stef has it all the time (on the film). LeBron, in his prime, just died. You pay to see him play. Giannis, you’ll pay. That’s not a long list,” he added.
