Lewis Hamilton says he recommends Max Verstappen join Mercedes, and says he recognizes Red Bull as a “great team”
Verstappen’s F1 Future continues to be a hot topic ahead of the UK’s Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend.
Verstappen’s media sessions with written news outlets were packed.
The four-time world champion answered questions about which team he will drive next year.
The 27-year-old reiterated in a new report of his approach from Mercedes that nothing has changed regarding his future for Red Bull.
Earlier this week, Sky Italia reported that Verstappen has agreed to join Mercedes next year.
However, their reports did not appear to be true.
George Russell and Kimi Antonelli addressed speculation on Silverstone on Thursday.
Russell declared he will be with Mercedes in 2026.
Antoneri, who is in his rookie season, said Mercedes has total “trust” in him.
Hamilton spent 12 years at Mercedes and won six of his seven world titles.
The 40-year-old has decided to leave his Brackley-based outfit in Ferrari ahead of the 2025 season.
Hamilton places emphasis on Verstappen’s rumors
Lewis Hamilton was asked if he would advise Max Verstappen to join his previous team.
The British driver replied “Of course” before mentioning some of the comments he made at McLaren.
“Of course. I mean, he’s from a great team,” Hamilton said in Silverstone.
“I was asked something about something many years ago… I don’t remember.
“I think I was as stubborn as Mercedes back then. I remember saying something about Red Bull being just drinks. I always regretted it because Mercedes (2011 McLaren) back then said it was great.
“What I can say when someone asks me about Mercedes is that it’s a natural passion and it’s a great team. They have great HR, it’s a great factory, it’s a great environment.
“Of course I say (yes) I want to see what happens.”
