Donovan Mitchell is undoubtedly one of the top 10 players in the NBA after an impressive year with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Mitchell averaged over 20 points per game for all eight seasons of his career, making his sixth consecutive All-Star Game.
However, the shooting guard might not have become an NBA superstar without his shocking high school moments.
Mitchell recently explained that his injury years ago led him to choose basketball over baseball.
Mitchell was probably one of the few aspiring athletes who could go to the professionals in multiple sports.
The 28-year-old was actually a better baseball player when he was younger, but he realized something important when he broke his wrist.
When Mitchell was recovering from a wrist injury, he missed out on playing more basketball, so when he returned to full fitness he started focusing on it.
“I grew up as a baseball player,” he said. “I really didn’t want to play basketball, and if I were to play professional, it would be through baseball.
“I broke my wrist when I was in my sophomore year of high school. I missed out on basketball more. I stopped playing baseball and chased basketball.
“In my third year, I went to 26 from four university offers.
Mitchell was a fan favorite of the Utah Jazz fans and apparently had no interest in leaving, but the organization had other ideas.
They traded him for the Cavaliers in the summer of 2022.
“It threw my life positively into the curveball,” Mitchell added. “This city has a certain amount of grit and determination.
“There are moments during the game where you go to hustle play, and it makes you feel like the crowd is behind you.
