There’s nothing wrong with the front office, where the money is spent to do the job of putting the best possible lineup on the field for every game, but mixed opinions have come from woodworking to express concern about LA’s budget, especially after the crowned the world’s baseball champion.
What may be scrutinized is the use of money that was postponed in a blockbuster deal the handed out. This combines an intelligent pay structure from the front office with a talent that is willing to sign up for these team-friendly deals.
Shohei Ohtani is the biggest example of signing a $700 million contract last year in offseason, but has postponed $68 of the $70 million annually. His lack of ego and desire to win and be surrounded by fellow talent leads him as the 18th highest paying player in the league.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today confirmed that the young boys rank second in total pay behind the New York Mets.
Last season, the were third in the total pay league behind the No. 1 Mets and second in the World Series runner-up New York Yankees.
Spending money on talented teams is 100% legal in baseball and is something more owners should do to increase competition in the league. Only three teams won the World Series in payroll in the lower half of the league on Opening Day, but two of these teams had their midseason deals up to the top half by the end of the year.
Through the spending, competitive teams can be put on the field, leading to more entertainment and engagement from the fans, and most importantly, ending in the glory of October.
