Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green went out to Paul George for his comments.
Over the past few years, tensions have been rising among several sections of the NBA community over how the NBA has become a scorer-friendly league.
With that in mind, it’s become difficult for defenders to stop players on the offensive edge of the floor.
Therefore, it leads to a very high score game. Plus, some believe this new era has led to the extinction of lockdown defenders, including Philadelphia 76ers’ star Paul George.
Since joining the 76ers last summer, there has been a lot of debate about George’s decline, but let’s keep it backburner.
Instead, we will focus on what PG13 claims about the NBA not having a lockdown defender.
“Our league – the days of stoppers, they’re almost gone. Tas (Tony Allen’s type), you call yourself a defender, even yourself – there are people who can’t do anything,” George insisted.
“I hope this is well-placed to be a tough shot for him. He may make a shot, but he did everything he could to make it a tough possession for him.
George was a great defender at the height of his career, earning a four-fold all-defensive team selection, but he no longer fits into that category.
George’s comments about the NBA defender reached Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green.
The 4x NBA champion responds to George having the same conversation with former NBA star Tony Allen, and it’s safe to say Green isn’t happy with the comment.
“I think Paul George is making a big mistake in putting himself in the same category as Tony Allen. Don’t tell me there’s no one like that anymore,” Green said.
“Maybe Paul George can’t identify them because they aren’t. That’s fine, to think they’re not there and say they’re rude to these people who are watching me come,” Dray suggested.
Draymond cited Thompson twins and Tumani Kamala as promising lockdown defenders after his malicious rant.
Even Green’s co-host Baron Davis took a shot at George, saying, “He’s not a lockdown defender.”
