Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green provided his views on former teammate Kevin Durant’s big move.
After weeks of speculation, Kevin Durant was traded with the Houston Rockets. The deal was agreed prior to the NBA Draft, with Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks heading to the Phoenix Suns.
Durant was on the verge of his midseason return to the Warriors. Green recently revealed how close the deal has come.
There are various theories provided as to why Durant shuts down trade, but one thing was clear. His time was awake at the Phoenix Suns.
This trade is widely regarded as a wise move by the Houston Rocket, and Draymond Green disagrees.
Green was part of the Warriors team that eliminated the Rockets in the fierce playoff battle Seven Games series.
Green said of the podcast: “Add Kevin Durant to the roster. It’s an upgrade. There’s no mistake about that…it’s KD. I’ll add him to the roster. The roster is better.
“KD is well versed in Ime Udoka as a coach and KD still wants to compete at a high level. This team has done to minimize, upgrade, and keep the roster the team has had to do, keeping the roster in a good place, when they look at the roster everywhere they could go.”
Green added that Jalen Green is trading as a direct result of his inconsistent performance of Rockets in the NBA playoffs.
He said: “They were struggling with, if they had a better playoff series than they would win, they had a very difficult playoff series.
Draymond Green cites the Jalen Green playoffs as the reason he was traded with Phoenix, but he believes Dillon Brooks’ exit came for a very different reason, claiming it was purely economic.
Green explained: “Dillon Brooks, he was consistent all year round. He was consistent with what he shot the ball well this year. Dillon Brooks is who he is.
“I don’t think Dillon Brooks was traded because he did something wrong. In this situation, I think Dillon Brooks is because it works in this business and your contract makes money.
“We’re looking at how this team was built. Of course they’re going to throw Dillon Brooks before throwing Jabari Smith. These young guys drafted by this general manager.
“Jaren Greene did too, but he’s not going to get rid of all the people he drafted. He’s got it out.”
