The Golden State Warriors are off to a 2-0 start to the 2025-26 season.
The Golden State Warriors easily defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in the opening game, then defeated the Denver Nuggets in a thriller overtime.
Despite Aaron Gordon scoring a career-high 50 points, the Warriors fought back to defeat the Nuggets.
The Warriors were led by Stephen Curry with 42 points and Jimmy Butler with 21 points. Draymond Green almost had a triple-double with 13 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists.
The Warriors are in a great place to start the season despite missing two key role players in their rotation.
Moses Moody remains sidelined with a left soleus strain, and De’Anthony Melton is still recovering from left ACL surgery.
Melton is undergoing rehabilitation and will be re-evaluated in the coming weeks, with the best-case scenario for a return being sometime in November.
Draymond Green talked about Melton’s return and said he’s a big piece for them.
“When De’Anthony Melton got injured last year, it hit our team hard.
“He was really good for us and was a big part of what we were doing, and then he got injured and everything changed.
“He’s going to rehab, but we have the depth to handle his rehab.”
Melton signed a one-year, $12.8 million contract with the Warriors in the 2024 offseason.
The Warriors thought Melton would be their answer at the two-guard position.
Melton appeared to be the player for the Warriors, averaging 10.3 points through the first six games of the season. However, in November 2024, he suffered a torn ACL in a game against the Dallas Mavericks and will miss the rest of the season.
Melton was on an expiring contract, so Golden State traded him to the Brooklyn Nets along with three second-round picks in exchange for Dennis Schroder.
The Warriors then signed Melton in October 2025 and reunited. Melton is expected to return to full strength and become a valuable rotation player for the Warriors this season.
