Draymond Green claims that the Golden State Warriors have a foundational piece for success, and they have to work to build around them.
The Golden State Warriors really had two half seasons last year. In the first part of the season, the Warriors looked terrible and seemed to miss the playoffs.
However, hours before the trade deadline, the Warriors completed their move to acquire Jimmy Butler. That deal turned out to be a catalyst for the incredible second half of the season.
The Warriors sneaked into the playoffs via the play-in tournament, disrupting second-seeded Houston Rocket. However, opposition to the Minnesota Timber Wolves turned out to be too much as they were eliminated in five games.
There were some silver linings that were defeated as the Warriors’ accidental puttog roster was able to reach the second round of the playoffs.
But now they have an offseason to build the right way around Stephen Curry and Jimmy Butler. And Draymond Green believes it is a solid foundation for his team.
Speaking about the podcast, Draymond Greene talked about what he thinks the Golden State Warriors need during free agency.
He admitted that the Warriors had done something difficult. This puts them in a strong position to build around a dynamic duo.
“Heavy lifting was done. I added Jimmy. I think that was the biggest thing that needed. Now you can do that. Now you know what Jimmy looks like in the system.
“We know how Jimmy likes to play, and we can use tools like that. We can lock you up before that, understand what we got and where we get and push them.
“Free agency is tough. You try to go to court to people and make the best offers. And you don’t always know what it is. For some, it can be the best amount. For others, it can be completely different.
“I think I’ll just go into it, it’s all about seeing and seeing… I think we’re in a much better position heading towards this.”
On the first day of the NBA free agency, the Golden State Warriors lost the stubborn as Kevon Rooney left to sign with the Pelican of New Orleans.
They have identified alternatives, so the Warriors don’t seem to panic about this situation. Many NBA insiders hope that the Warriors will push for Al Horford in the coming days.
Adding Horford as a Rooney alternative is considered an upgrade. Despite being now 39 years old, Horford shows he can play a reliable role from the bench.
Additionally, Warriors are very limited when it comes to proper rim protection big. Horford can fill that gap, but it’s also a decent floor spacing option.
