Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green has supported the Phoenix Suns new head coach, Jordan Otto.
The 2024/25 Phoenix Suns’ hot start didn’t last long. They started with an impressive 9-2 record before the season gradually fell apart.
The Suns were unable to even capture the injured Dallas Mavericks to win the Play-In Tournament Bertse, missing out on the postseason completely with a season 36-46 ending record.
Their miserable season set a new start, when Mike Budenholzer was fired after only one season in charge.
The Phoenix Suns took their time choosing an alternative. Last week they announced the employment of a successor to Budenholzer.
Jordan Ott is the new guy in charge and will take on his first NBA head coaching gig after a spell as an assistant to the Cleveland Cavaliers and La Lakers.
It was a long journey to the top of OTT. NBA star Draymond Green has given his support to the new Suns coach.
Greene says he worked with OTT in Michigan before entering the NBA and is proud of his rise.
Speaking to the podcast, Green said, “The person who literally trained me for my pre-draft movement for the draft was Jordan Otto, who was a Michigan video guy and video coordinator.
“To see someone come from video coordinator to become head coach of the NBA, I’m happy as hell for Jordan Ott, happy as hell for him.
“To grind his way, it’s absolutely incredible. I know Phoenix has gotten something amazing. You talk about the best X and O in business, not someone who is afraid to hear your voice.”
Over the past eight seasons, the Phoenix Suns have had six different head coaches. Earl Watson, Jay Triano, Igor Kokoskov, Monty Williams, Frank Vogel and Mike Budenholzer.
This has led to court dysfunction, and Sands hopes Jordan Otto will be the answer.
In this context, Draymond Green has a very bold prediction, showing his faith in Otto.
He said: “They’re locking up to a great head coach who can be there for the next 20 years if he wants to be.”
The NBA is not known for its many long-time coaches these days. It’s a phenomenal question that will last for 20 years in a franchise.
Not to mention the Phoenix Suns. But sooner or later, the franchise needs to give the coaches time. Perhaps the ot can be a man.
