Draymond Green has already been named NBA Rookie of the Year for the 2025-26 season.
The 2025 NBA Draft class has the potential to be the best of all time, with multiple future All-Star candidates.
Before the season started, No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg seemed to be the consensus Rookie of the Year, but that changed after just a few games.
Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green already has more than just Flagg to earn NBA ROTY.
The Philadelphia 76ers selected VJ Edgecomb with the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
After a strong summer league and preseason campaign, Edgecombe continued its strong form into the regular season.
Immediately after his debut, Edgecomb proved that Flagg would face significant competition in the Rookie of the Year race. Now, the 20-year-old also has Green in his corner.
“For Rookie of the Year, I’m going to go up against VJ Edgecombe, and I think VJ has every chance to be successful.
“I think he’s NBA ready right now and they understand his role,” Green said on the podcast.
Edgecomb is already averaging 22.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game for the 76ers. He also shoots a perfect 47.1% from the field and 42.9% from deep.
VJ’s impressive start to the season helped the 76ers, who hold the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, improve to 4-0.
Edgecomb is already making fans question Paul George’s role with the 76ers. Flagg, on the other hand, has not yet settled on a role for himself.
In fact, fans are starting to believe that Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd may be setting Flagg up for failure. how? By playing as a point guard instead of his natural position as a forward.
Green also believes Flagg playing PG will keep him out of the NBA ROTY race with Edgecombe.
“For example, Cooper Flagg, they’re still trying to figure out if he’s going to play point guard. What’s the lineup going to be around him? We know what V.J. Edgecomb’s role is and he’s a good fit for it,” Green added.
Kidd’s stubbornness to not play Flagg in his natural position could shatter the No. 1 overall pick’s confidence. After all, Flagg recently had a terrible showing in a two-point game against the OKC Thunder.
