The Golden State Warriors are off to a strong start this season.
With a 3-1 record, the Golden State Warriors have shown they have the potential to be a championship team this season.
Stephen Curry continues to play at an incredibly high level, Jimmy Butler is solid, and Draymond Green anchors the defense.
If the Golden State Warriors can get consistent play from their supporting cast, they could become a serious threat in the Western Conference.
Although his offensive numbers aren’t impressive, Green has taken pride in his defense throughout his career.
His defensive playmaking and versatility have been a big reason the Warriors have had some success over the years.
On his podcast, Green outlined three goals for next season, including being considered for Defensive Player of the Year.
“I want to put my name back in the hat to be Defensive Player of the Year. I want to be an All-Star this year and, most importantly, I want to win another championship this year, and I think we have the team to make that happen.”
“You need diversity in the lineup you put on the floor, and we have that diversity, which is really exciting.”
Green could certainly be in the running for Defensive Player of the Year, but given how dominant Victor Wembaneyama is on that end of the floor, he’ll be a long way from winning the award.
In terms of making the All-Star team, it will be difficult for Green to achieve that goal, as the Western Conference is loaded with talent, especially in the frontcourt. Again, this is where Green is probably lacking.
Green’s last big goal is to win another championship alongside Stephen Curry. The two have won four championships together so far.
Essentially, this is the most realistic goal Green has set. That’s because the Warriors have shown they can be a championship-caliber team when they play well.
However, with the Oklahoma City Thunder looking dominant and the San Antonio Spurs on the rise, it will be difficult for Green to win his fifth title this season.
