The new CBA has significantly changed NBA free agency. Draymond Green is not satisfied with that and is calling for the NBPA to agree to the deal.
NBA free agency began last week and was a relatively quiet time, unlike the past few years. There have been no major bomb signings or trades.
Miles Turner shockingly signed with the Milwaukee Bucks after the franchise abandoned Damian Lillard, who had suffered from Achilles’ injuries.
Other than this, there were actually not many shocking moves during this period. The team is focused on expanding their superstars and signing two-way wing players with team-friendly contracts.
The reason for this is due to the new NBA salary cap structure and aprons and the punitive measures introduced to punish teams beyond the scary first and second aprons.
However, Draymond Green appears to have had enough of this situation, leaving him in a new CBA, NBPA and NBA free agency.
Draymond Green used the thread to discuss the lack of NBA free agency. He admitted that the free agency came and went and there was no major movement.
He denounced the new CBA for the situation, throwing shade at NBPA’s CJ McCollum, suggesting he should have done his job. Green believes the new conditions have put an end to NBA free agency. Furthermore, he lamented the impact this had on younger players in the league.
“I’m sitting at Mancave having a conversation with my wife. I was baffled by the fact that NBA free agency is over. Frankly, it never really started.
The level of forecasts up to July 1st was just as exciting as the fireworks on the 4th. That was the excitement of the NBA Finals.
“It’s only a week after watching the team spray champagne and ride the float. You can definitely finish the ‘new CBA’ and the second apron (hard cap) with a free agency.
“Sadly, I’m sitting here and seeing a lot of players don’t understand that they overwhelm the market and are opposed to the new rules.
“I should be the president of the Player Association. LOL. I should have helped a lot. The league is great. It’s great for all of us. The great partnership between players, staff, front office, ownership and fans soars the oiled machine.
“And justly so, the things that players know little about this business and how it affects them, and the way that most people don’t understand, is baffling to me.”
Feeling speculation about his post focused on his teammate Jonathan Cuminga, and Draymond Green, who hasn’t got a contract offer from free agency, has shut down the story.
“And before I run y’all and make this about the JK, that’s not the case. He’s 22 years old and makes a lot of money, so this has nothing to do with him.”
Jonathan Cuminga is currently a restricted free agent and is about to leave the Golden State Warriors. However, the NBA team has yet to get a chance at Kuminga.
The King of Sacramento wants Cuminga, but is not all in on the younger star. Kuminga is one of many restricted free agents who have not yet signed a new contract.
Brooklyn Nets’ Cam Thomas is another example of a team gambling the value of players, allowing them to be re-signed at the lowest possible amount.
For young NBA players who are not superstars, their financial futures are heavily influenced by the new CBA.
Unfortunately, things are unlikely to change until a new CBA is negotiated. The agreed changes will not take effect until the 2030-31 season.
