Carmelo Anthony is officially heading towards the immortality of basketball.
Former NBA superstar Carmelo Anthony joined Dwight Howard, Suverd, Maya Moore, Sylvia Fouls, Biled Novan and Danny Crawford in the headlines for the 2025 Nice Miss Basketball Hall of Fame Class.
Carmelo Anthony is indisputable for being inducted into the Hall of Fame. He has praise to prove he is a 10-time All-Star and six-time All-NBA team member.
The retired forward is one of the most won American hoopers ever on the international stage, helping the US win Olympic gold medals in 2008, 2012 and 2016.
When discussing Anthony’s legacy as a player, the era of Carmelo Anthony with the Denver Nuggets is often overlooked by many.
Most fans know Anthony as the New York Nick, but he was also iconic when he was wearing a nugget uniform.
Drafted by the franchise as the fifth overall pick in the 2003 draft, Anthony instantly served as the Nuggets’ homemade centerpiece.
With his top notch scoring ability and aggressively explosive play, he pushed Denver to withstand success, reaching seven straight playoff appearances highlighted in the 2009 Western Conference Finals run.
In the mid- to late 2000s, Anthony proudly embraced his role as the face of the Nuggets organization until the troubling exit joined the Knicks in 2010-11.
Regardless of what has happened from the past, Draymond Green is sure that Anthony’s 15th Jersey deserves respect for the Nuggets franchise because of the impact and cultural impact it has had in Denver.
“It’s definitely retired with the Knicks, so I think I should be retiring with Denver,” the Golden State Warriors star told his Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis.
“The reason I think I should retire in Denver is because Mello spent almost the same amount of time with Denver that he spent with the Knicks. And what he did with the Denver Nuggets jersey is first to think of Mello.
“Because Mello made it culturally cool. He seemed like someone who made the Denver Nuggets culturally cool, and he made a big start in his career with the Denver Nuggets. I think Mello scored 14,000 points and more, along with the Denver Nuggets.
“It deserves to retire his jersey.”
The case from witnessing Anthony being promoted on the ball arena rafters is rather challenging as she shares a similar jersey number with Nikola Jokic.
There is no denying that during his time at Mile High City, Jokic has done more than Anthony did.
Serbian sense went against the biggest odds, becoming the best player in the world today, the biggest odds, being the three-time league MVP and the person responsible for giving Denver their first NBA championship in 2023.
Despite the overwhelming favor that Jokic argues in this argument, Green believes that Nuggets should still retire from the franchise’s best two 15th numbers.
“Both people can retire from jersey,” Green said. “If I’m not wrong, I think there’s a retired jersey to Michigan. The numbers have retired twice. If I’m not wrong, that’s pretty sure. And this should happen.
“(Anthony) is definitely supposed to retire with the Knicks. And one argument people are trying to use with Melo in Denver is, “But the Joker won the championship, and Melo didn’t win the championship.” Denver doesn’t just win the championship, but it’s not necessarily using it with the Knicks.
“But man, forget that. Melo’s jerseys should be retiring in both (New York and Denver).”
In all of NBA history, he retired from the same jersey, which he shares twice. Dick McGuire and Earl Monroe earned a rare distinction as they raised No. 15 in New York.
Perhaps we’ll see two No. 15 again in Denver. Who knows what will unfold in the near future, but Anthony has earned the right to be considered by the nuggets, who are enshrined in the history of the team. And he himself believes that both he and Jokic should be there.
