The game plan for Dricus du Plessis at UFC 319 is simple.
Following an impressive 9-0 start within the Octagon, including back-to-back middleweight title defenses against Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland, “Stilnock” lights up gold against undefeated Chechnya monster Kamzachimev in Chicago this Saturday night.
There’s been much said about the possibility of passing Du Plessis’s loss of his first career in mixed martial arts to “Borz” and the game plan that the South African sense should implement to give himself the best chance possible.
However, Du Plessis has only one game plan.
“It’s not personal,” Du Plessis told UFC 319 Media Day. “It’s just business. And I’ve said this many times. You can be the biggest (explicit) guy in the world, or the nicest guy in the world. I’m still trying to kill you, and that’s why I’m here.”
Du Plessis is ready to go to five “full speed” rounds with Chimaev
So far, since making its UFC debut five years ago, it has done very well with “DDP”. He routinely removes the opposition, whether in the third or fifth round, and thinks “Stillknocks” is the same as his next title defense in “Chi-Town.”
“I’m out there, fighting the road and seeing what happens. He didn’t change his game plan with Robert Whitaker because it was five rounds,” added Duplesis. “That already gives him the feeling that he’s not thinking about five rounds.
“Five rounds are long and I’m not afraid to go into that dark place. We’ve seen it. If you know we’ve been tired all day, I’m tired many times. I’ve done it many times. So let’s go from the first bell to the end.
