After the latest episode, five more fighters joined the UFC roster Candidate Series.
Tuesday night, week 3 Candidate Series Going to UFC Apex in Las Vegas, it was a continuation of week two, with UFC CEO Dana White offering contracts to all five winners. The same thing happened in week three as four fighters scored their first round finish and the fifth recorded an epic 3-round comeback stop.
In the main event, Ryan Gundra mow Trent Miller with a devastating punch to advance his winning streak for seven consecutive years. Gundra is a heavy favorite, showing why, unleashing a barrage of fast and powerful punches, and he was unable to confront Gundra’s attack while Miller attempted a fight. Finally, a series of punches dropped the mirror to the ground, and judge Mark Smith stepped in, giving Gundra enough victory for Dana White to award the contract.
In the penultimate match of the evening, Marcio Barbosa destroyed Damon Wilson and scored a first-round knockout. With 15 career wins, 15 of his 16 career wins heading into the night, Barbosa was a massive bet favorite, and he delivered another one, overwhelmed the hook for Wilson, adding another first-round stop to his list. Wilson showed off solid durability that recovers from being faceplanted early in the round, but simply outperformed, Barbosa was able to get a stop in the opening frame within a minute and won the UFC contract.
In the third evening match, Abdul Rakman Yakiyaev did a quick job of Alik Lorenz, extending his unbeaten streak to seven wins. Yakhyaev was his biggest favorite on the card, and seeing all of it, he smiled Lorenz with a fast, sharp punch that hurt him right away, finishing the match in just 30 seconds and easily called for Dana White to award the UFC contract.
In his second match in the evening, Manoel Sosa wrote a grand comeback for Cristian Perez, earning a three-round TKO in the only match to come out of the first round on Tuesday night. Perez came out strong early, earning a takedown and using his aggressive jiu-jitsu game to attack and control the action, leading 2-0 to the final frame. However, 10 minutes later, Perez was exhausted, and Sosa put on pressure, defending the takedown and landing a big shot in the final round. In the end, Sosa managed to seriously hurt Perez. Perez led Sosa’s impressive stop victory and UFC contract, simply because he had no energy to defend himself.
In the evening opening match, Donte Johnson did a quick job at Dallion Abbey, stopping a massive heavyweight in more than a minute. The monastery looked huge compared to Johnson, who gave up on the disadvantage of being 6 inches tall and quite a weight, but that didn’t matter. Johnson surprised the monastery early with a powerful combination, then poured pressure on his resume to add another first-round suspension, making it easy for Dana White to award the UFC contract.
