Mexico City – Edgar Chairs created moments at the UFC on ESPN 64.
The Chairless (12-6 MMA, 2-2 UFC) were unable to hold on emotion after submitting CJ Vergara (12-7-1 MMA, 3-5) in the first round of the main card match. The battle and victory in the soil of the house was one thing, but after doing it after the death of his grandfather, he did it.
In a postwar interview with Daniel Cormier, Chairs expressed how much victory meant to him as his grandfather sold his truck and paid for the necessary surgery.
“I love Grandpa and he has been a great support in my career,” Chairs told MMA Junkie and other reporters through an interpreter at a postwar press conference. “He was always there when I was training. I’m here because of him. Of course I miss him. Of course I’ll dedicate this victory to my granddad.”
Vergara’s submission marked the Chairs’ return to the victory column following a unanimous decision loss to Joshua Van at UFC 306. Getting a bonus revenue finish is always sweet.
“Even if I lose, he’ll be proud,” the chairman said. “Of course I know I’m happy to know this victory. I just want to celebrate it with my grandma and the whole family.”
In his first fight in 2025, the 29-year-old flyweight is looking to return to summer and stay active, and if possible, he will land spots at UFC 320, the first Noche UFC event held in Mexico this September.
“I feel good for my body. I have a great shape. I just want to fight,” Chairs said. “If it’s an international card, that’s great. Or if you’re at a Mexican event in September, certainly. I’ve fought here in Mexico, so I love it. Certainly, as soon as possible, I’m ready.”
