Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra had high praise for the new players.
The Miami Heat recently played against the San Antonio Spurs, and as expected, the San Antonio Spurs won.
The Heat stayed competitive for four quarters, but the Spurs ultimately won 107-101.
As a result, the Heat fell to 3 wins and 2 losses, but the Spurs remain undefeated this season. Speaking of the matchup, coach Erik Spoelstra had high praise for the Heat’s star player.
Simone Fontecchio arrived in Miami after a short stint with the Detroit Pistons. Heat fans were excited about Fontecchio after his strong performance at EuroBasket 2025.
Additionally, Spoelstra has supported Fontecchio at every point during his time with the Heat. After seeing his performance against Spurs, Spo once again praised the Italian star.
“He’s a combustible player. We have to plan for him and we have to know where he is. That helps in everything we do,” Spoelstra said after the game.
He added: “He knocks one down, but it’s like a snowball rolling down a hill for him.”
Simply put, Fontecchio is a rhythm shooter, and once he knocks down his early shots, it’s hard to stop him from scoring.
Fontecchio came off the bench in the six-point loss to the Spurs and recorded 18 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
Led by the phenomenal Victor Wembaneyama, the Spurs emerged as a top team early in the regular season.
Once again Wenby was at the heart of his team’s victory, but Coach Spo explained the intricate details of the loss to Spurs.
“The Spurs made more plays down the stretch. It was a really great game. I think there were a couple of plays in the last three that could have changed things,” Spoelstra said.
The Heat dominated for much of the fourth quarter, but the Spurs came back when it mattered most. Either way, it was a solid match and fun to watch for neutral NBA fans.
