Julian Alvarez looks like Arsenal needs it, is it realistic?
I’ve seen Julian Alvarez’s link and a lot of Arsenal fans have asked me about them. But I have to admit, I would be surprised if there was much to this other than speculation.
The report comes from Spain and suggests that Arsenal is the “most difficult” club for Alvarez, but I can’t see it for myself.
Don’t get me wrong, I think he’ll be a great signing for Arsenal. He will bring something to an attack that Mikel Arteta doesn’t have now. He’s a live wire and someone who never stops pulling defenders out of position. He adds some confusion about how Arsenal plays and I think the team needs it.
When Gabriel Jesus first arrived, it was something he provided in the early months that “changed the world of Arsenal” and used the quotes he once used by Mikel Arteta.
I see a lot of what Alvarez brings about in Jesus in the first few months before his injury at the World Cup. That’s why it’s a move that appeals to me.
But it all feels a bit fantastical to me.
First of all, Alvarez is very pleased in Spain on all accounts. He loves it there and hasn’t pinned exactly to get back into the Premier League.
And there’s the money involved. Players like Benjamin Sesco and Victor Guilyoker aren’t cheap, but if you go further from Atletico, you’ll probably find them far cheaper than Alvarez.
They spent about £80 million to sign him from Manchester City last summer, and he has been a huge success since the move. Therefore, it would cost a great price to praise him from the Spanish capital.
So I’ve never actually seen this have too many legs.
Anthony Gordon is linked to Arsenal, but Nico Williams is more likely
There are many names added to the mix regarding the possibility of a new left winger at Arsenal. Rodrigo is clearly going round as he waits to find out what Real Madrid’s plans are for him (here covered by Mark Bullus for catch-offside).
But Anthony Gordon is another proposed target for Arsenal.
He was an interesting player and the person I have to admit had his game in Heights that I didn’t expect him to reach when he first moved to Newcastle.
I was one of those who questioned the price Newcastle paid to sign Gordon from Everton, but it’s hard to question now. He has clearly proven to be the top player at the highest level since moving to St. James Park.
If Newcastle hadn’t qualified for the Champions League, he could have been. But they secured a top five finish, so Gordon or their star player prospects now look very slim.
I couldn’t really see him heading for Arsenal anyway. Nico Williams is the club’s priority target when he’s on the left side of the attack, and if he makes a reinforcement move in the area, he hopes that the athletic Bilbao winger will be the guy they’ll chase.
Max Douman is too good for Arsenal’s first team to ignore
The excitement for Max Dowman has long been bubbled under the surface of Arsenal.
Even when he was 13, when he heard people talk about what this kid was doing to older players, he found himself in the club’s youth team much older than his own.
Arsenal was understandably keen to envelop his talent as long as possible. Not only can they move him away from rival clubs that are trying to seduce him, they can also try to lower the expectations of such a young player.
But it’s now very difficult to get Dowman into the spotlight. His talent made it essentially impossible, even at just 15 years old.
Arsenal has handled his development carefully, but it was evident by the way that he was brought to the first team photo by Mikel Arteta over the past 12 months, with preparations being made to step up to senior football.
Without restrictions, I think I’d seen him feature at some point last season, so I hope that will happen in future campaigns.
I think how much we see about him is basically dependent on how Douman handles the step-up. Let’s take a closer look at it first on a preseason tour later this summer.
Arteta will take a closer look at him on tour. Not only how he performs in minutes on the pitch, but how he handles while he is away on the team.
Arsenal has guidelines that they must follow as a club when they have young players traveling with them, but they’ve recently faced a similar scenario with Ethan Nuwaneri, so they’re used to it.
That might make things a little harder for Dowman at first, but if he handles it well and shows that he can physically deal with playing against senior players, I think he’ll get into the math when it comes to getting a few minutes next season.
It really depends on him because the talent is clearly there. He already looks too good for the level he’s currently playing.
Arsenal Women’s Great Champions League success is no surprise
What the Arsenal woman achieved in Lisbon last week was nothing but spectacular.
It was very impressive to see them coming towards the Barcelona side to win the Champions League, and was a rich reward for all the jobs the club has put in the women’s game over the years.
Yes, Chelsea has been the dominant force on the UK pitch recently, but no one has done more than Arsenal for women’s matches in this county.
They are a very strong driving force to try to change and improve women’s matches, and this Champions League victory would do a lot for that.
Clubs have really invested in the women’s side of the game in recent years. They gave the team a platform to really showcase themselves, and the profits were clear.
The regular game with the Emirates was a huge success. This is clear in the size of the crowd we are currently watching in the game.
And watch the scene outside the stadium on Monday when he lifted the trophy in front of thousands of fans who came down to celebrate the success of the Champions League.
Compare these scenes to what we saw in 2007, when Arsenal last won the European Elite Club Competition. You can see how far the game has come and how much the fanbase has grown.
It’s absolutely fantastic and everyone at the club deserves great credit for what they did.
