Since Andrea Berta’s arrival, Arsenal’s interest in the potential transfer dive for Lisbon striker Viktor Gyoker to sport has appeared to be heated.
Berta recently replaced EDU as sports director at Emirates Stadium, and he appears to be an exciting appointment after his former club Atletico Madrid experience.
According to Charles Watts, Berta now appears to be gaining interest in gunners in signing Gyoker this summer.
Speaking exclusively Catch off side Due to his latest daily briefing column, Watts said that, although not very strong, interest in Gyoker has been there for a while.
Swedish International could possibly be a preferred option for Berta as the club is targeting new sign-ups ahead of the summer.
Viktor Gyoker could sign a better striker than Arsenal’s Benjamin Sesco
Watts can see why Berta pilots Arsenal in this direction. His personal view is that Gyoker is a better option than someone like Benjamin Sesco and is more realistic than Alexander Isaac of Newcastle.
“After Andrea Berta was appointed, it was interesting to see the new link to Viktor Gyokeres this week,” Watts said.
“The interest in Gyoker has always been there, but it has been relatively slimy lately. So it’s interesting that he now appears to have been heated up when Berta arrives.
“We need to see if that goes any further than that, but I think it’s pretty clear that Mikel Arteta probably has other targets in mind, so I think it’s definitely showing Berta’s impact.
“I know that his dream signature is Alexander Isaac, but that’s completely unrealistic to me, and the last thing Arsenal needs this summer is to chase after a very unlikely target they’re likely to get.
“So Arteta might need to be convincing when it comes to focusing on other targets, and Berta will clearly play a big role.
“He obviously liked Gyoker, given the previous link he saw between the striker and Atletico Madrid, so it makes sense that he would take him to North London.
“From a personal perspective, I think I prefer him over Benjamin Sesco.
“I like Sesco from what I saw about him and I wouldn’t be disappointed if he became an Arsenal land striker, but I would be more confident when Gyoker hits the ground.
“I like how direct he is. It’s about scoring goals with him. Yes, I have doubts about whether he can maintain the shape he produced in Portugal in the Premier League, but I’m sure he’ll score a goal here.”
