Swiss MMA lightweight star Maurice Abevi recently sat down with low-kick MMA’s Christian Alvarez to discuss his upcoming fight with former title challenger Aribeg Raslov in One Fight Night 32.
When asked about how different life Maurice Abevy is for him as a fighter, and how different he has changed from the fight in the European scene.
“When I fought in Europe, I was very hungry (…) to show that I could be one. And I was excited, I was overtrained, and I was just not experienced, but I was a bit hungry, but I’m one (…). I know a lot of mistakes, but I’m not soon and I’m making me more professional.
Maurice Abevy was on a six-game winning streak in every finish in the European regional scene before signing one championship. There, in his debut match, he faces dangerous Turkish fighter Hamil Amir, who will pass his first defeat in his career. Knocking down the young fighter, he placed him in the brutal Sloev stretch submission that Maurice Abubi barely survived. When asked about this rough debut in one championship stage, Abubi responded with a humble view of his loss.
“I was beating everyone up to that point and I came to the fight with great confidence because I knew I could beat this guy (…) I knew that, but I knew I could win this fight.
Maurice then continued to discuss how this loss changed his entire outlook on MMA and how it turned him into the current top MMA fighter, bringing the 3-1 record to one.
“When I debuted, I didn’t have a real team. I did everything myself. And I knew I was too emotional in this fight after this defeat. My impressive coach.
When asked about a potential matchup against current lightweight champion Christian Lee, who has performed without a contest against Aribeg Rathlov, Maurice Abubi chose not to look at the future and focused on the task at hand.
“I think Christian Lee is a double champion now (…). And he fought at welterweight and in the lightweight division. (…) I know how good I am. I know I can beat him (…).
Maurice Abubi has the opportunity to put herself in the photo of the title if she defeats Rathlov.
Maurice Abevi’s incredible talent has been fully on display since his only defeat against Amir. Now Maurice Abuvi has a real chance to challenge the dominant face of Christian Lee, the head of the main dynasty of the MMA dynasty. Or you might find him face to face with fellow lightweight Lucas Gabriel who has a stake to claim the shot against Lee’s American MMA monster. The future of one lightweight division is uncertain, but Maurice Abubi aims to make his point on June 9th.
