Liverpool signed both Hugo Ekicchike and Alexander Isaac to bolster their offensive options during the summer transfer period.
Ekitike was previously signed by Eintracht Frankfurt and has an impressive start to the Reds team.
The French attacker scored two goals in the Premier League and one goal in the Community Shield.
Isaac was later signed as Newcastle United played hardball in forcing him to leave the club.
French football journalist Julian Lawrence claims that Ekitice would not have signed the Premier League Giants if he knew he would sign ISAK this summer.
Isaac, the most expensive signature in Premier League history, is expected to start in the week of the Merseyside Club, which pushes Ekitique to the bench.
Even against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Isaac began the match, and Ekitique appeared as an alternative.
Will Hugo Ekitike accept an alternative role in Liverpool?
Speaking about BBC 5 Live Sport, Laurens claims in his opinion that Ekitike would not sign the club if he knew he would sign ISAK.
He said:
“I really don’t think so (I would have signed it if I had known Isaac was coming). I think I signed it after my first approach from Liverpool to Newcastle for Newcastle, before Isaac took a strike or stopped training.
“As soon as Isaac settled, I knew it was Ekichike to be dropped. That was very clear. Can they play together?
“Unless ISAK is compliant, it will not become an Ekitique before ISAK.”
Arne Slot needs to manage strikers skillfully
Having both strikers is an advantage for Reds and manager Arne Slot, but it could be bad news for Ekitike as his playing time will be affected.
As Lawrence correctly pointed out, the slots still allow both of them to be used with Ekitique on the left, but the doubt remains. Will it bring the best from him to match Ekitique’s game?
It makes sense on paper, but it still means nothing as slots can’t find a way to unfold both together.
It’s still too early to assume for both strikers since the season began a month ago.
All we know is that the Reds have two talented strikers and that both attackers have enough chances to make their mark, considering they compete in all the competition they take part in.
