Sky Sports F1 reporter Craig Slater suggests that Max Verstappen and Adrian Newey “hold together tightly,” while “clicking as a personality.”
Newey held the position of Chief Technology Officer of Red Bull, three of Verstappen’s four F1 title Triumphs.
He finished the team midway through Verstappen’s fourth victory in 2024 and left the team at the Miami Grand Prix.
Newey’s departure coincided with Red Bull’s recession.
For the rest of 2024, Red Bull won just five races as they had to resist the intense pressure from Landororis in the Formula One title race.
Newey is currently the managing technical director of Aston Martin and has been able to do a lot about his signature, which could lead to poaching Verstappen in the future.
Despite their success together in Red Bull, Slater suggested that their relationship wasn’t as rosy as it was made.
“He also pointed out that he didn’t want to comment on Perez’s claim that it was the trigger for all Red Bull issues since Adrian Newey was gone,” he said in Ted’s podbook.
“People tell me they didn’t have… I’m not saying Max and Adrian Newey have a kind of problematic relationship with Red Bull.
“But if you like you, I don’t know if they’re the closest companions. That’s expressed to me.”
“I think professionally, they appreciate each other, but what I’m saying is that one or two people didn’t click as personality.”
Verstappen’s F1 Future in the Spotlight
Max Verstappen’s F1 Future continues to attract attention.
Verstappen’s Red Bull contract expires at the end of 2028, but his future with the team is not entirely safe.
Verstappen is believed to have an exit clause in the contract. This could mean he could leave at the end of the year.
Verstappen is highly linked to the switch to Mercedes.
George Russell and Kimi Antonelli were out of contracts at the end of the year and have not yet agreed to the new deal.
Aston Martin is interested in Verstappen, particularly with its links to Honda and Newie.
However, they insisted that Fernando Alonso and Lance’s walks remain in the driver lineup for next year.
