Since joining Liverpool, Alexander Isak has struggled to reproduce the impressive form that once made him one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers.
He joined the Reds in a record Premier League transfer, but the former Newcastle United striker is yet to score a league goal for his new club.
Isak has scored one goal for Liverpool, against Southampton in the EFL Cup.
Isak’s biggest challenge is consistency in front of goal, which would be a big surprise to see given his past goalscoring record.
What do Liverpool think about Alexander Isaac’s struggles?
Fabrizio Romano has admitted what Liverpool think of the Swedish striker.
Romano said on the Here We Go podcast:
“There was basically no pre-season for Alexander Isak. OK, he was training apart from the group and with a private trainer, but it’s not the same as starting a proper pre-season in July and training for two months until the Premier League starts. So it’s completely different.”
“Mentally, too, Isak was basically at war with Newcastle to get the chance to leave the club and go to Liverpool. So it was a complicated summer, especially physically.”
“Liverpool are confident that as soon as the player returns to good form he will shine and score goals. So, again, Liverpool are not worried.”
Isaac needs more time to get fully fit
Isak has been plagued by fitness issues since moving to Anfield this summer.
The striker hasn’t had a proper pre-season and the moment he arrived at the club he didn’t look like the same striker we saw shining at Newcastle.
Isak’s Liverpool version is still a work in progress and it will depend on whether he can adapt both mentally and tactically to the demands of Anfield’s unrelenting stage.
Liverpool are confident he will deliver good results and they have every reason to believe that, given his past results, quality and potential to get even better.
