Atletico Madrid has stepped up efforts to strengthen the left side of the defense this summer, with Liverpool’s Andy Robertson emerging as the number one target for that position.
According to Transfer News expert Fabrizio Romano, Diego Simeone’s side has made Robertson a “top target” in the summer transfer window.
Simeone’s side considers Scotland International ideal for its tactical structure, with players reportedly ranking among other prominent options, including AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez.
Atletico’s Robertson praise is said to be strong. The club sees him as a reliable, combat-tested fullback capable of providing leadership.
Atletico Madrid wants Liverpool star Andy Robertson
Romano provided the update with his X account:
“Atletico Madrid’s top left-hand target is Andy Robertson, an internally grateful candidate.
“It’s not an easy deal in Liverpool, and by joining the club right away, we also appreciate him in Kerquez.
“Atléti has Robertson, which is higher than Theo on the LB list so far.”
But stopping Robertson’s dealings is not easy. The 31-year-old is highly regarded by Liverpool and has played a key role in the club’s success.
The left-back is a strong pillar of the team and has been successful under Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot.
The Reds are expected to complete Milos Kerquez’s signature from Bournemouth, but Liverpool is not in a hurry to offload Robertson.
The Reds aren’t trying to sell Robertson this summer
Kerkez’s imminent arrival may create room for negotiation, but Liverpool is not under pressure to sell.
The deal with Robertson requires compelling suggestions from Atletico, both financially and in terms of player desires.
Robertson’s move remains rare at this stage, but the Spanish ambition to sign the Liverpool star is clear.
Following Kerkez’s imminent arrival, it remains to be seen whether the players will decide to leave the club this summer.
Along with Robertson, Darwin Nunes and Federico Chiesa were also able to leave Anfield this summer.
