According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal is close to finalizing the transfer of Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Alizabaraga on a £5 million deal.
Posted on the official account of X, a previous Twitter account, Romano said Kepa has completed medical care with Arsenal.
According to Romano, the Spanish shot stopper appears to be nearing completion of this move, so please see below.
Kepa looks like a smart signature from Arsenal. Gunners need the experienced and solid backup behind First Choice.
Although it didn’t go well with Chelsea’s Kepa, he was impressed with the loan at Bournemouth last season, and previously won the Champions League winner medal while on loan at Real Madrid.
Arsenal goalkeeper under Mikel Arteta
Arsenal had many goalkeepers under current manager Mikel Arteta, and was the first choice when Bern Reno first took over from Unai Emery.
Reno’s injury meant Emiliano Martinez had the opportunity to play regularly, and he impressed a lot with Arsenal’s FA Cup victory in the first few months of Arsenal’s FA Cup victory.
However, Martinez later left and Leno once again became number one, but Arsenal brought Matthew Ryan on loan as a backup.
Aaron Ramsdale then joined in the summer of 2021, quickly becoming a new first choice, with Leno falling to the bench before moving to Fulham.
Matt Turner then joined Ramsdale to back up, but just a year later, Raya took on the first loan that seemed to be permanent.
As a result, Ramsdale left, and Neto later took on a one-season loan from Bournemouth, taking his position as a backup to Raya.
Now Kepa is coming to take on that role in yet another change in Arteta’s goalkeeper.
