Kamui Kobayashi returned to the back of the wheels of a Formula 1 car last week for the first time in 11 years to take part in a test with Haas.
Kobayashi’s surprise marks his first F1 outing since the final race in 2014.
The Japanese driver was behind Haas 2023 F1 Challenger at Circuit Paul Ricardo, which held the French Grand Prix between 2018 and 2022.
Kobayashi went out thanks to Haas’ partnership with Japanese manufacturer Toyota.
“A little bit of fun with this beast again in 11 years,” Kobayashi posted on social media after the test.
“Thank you for this opportunity, Toyota and Haas! I also thank you for my neck.
Kobayashi-F1 Fan’s Favorite
Despite winning the podium only once in his Formula One career, Kobayashi is a fan favorite.
Kobayashi made a mark in sports at the end of 2009 and intervened with Timo Glock at the end of the season.
During his two race stint, Kobayashi was impressed.
His wheel-to-wheel combat caught the eye of many.
Kobayashi will secure a drive in Sauber in 2010.
He stayed in the Swiss-based outfit for three seasons.
However, Kobayashi struggled to maintain his seat in 2013 due to a lack of financial support.
Kobayashi returned to Formula 1 in 2014, but with Minnow Catum.
2014 was a disastrous year for Kobayashi, when Caterham struggled with financial difficulties and performance on the track.
His final F1 appearance was at the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Since then, Kobayashi has achieved many successes in the World Endurance Championship with Toyota.
