Man United has a busy summer transfer window with four major signatures. The 23-year-old arrives at Old Trafford and becomes the new starting goalkeeper for Reuben Amorim, who has lost faith in Andre Onana and Altai Bayindeal.
Given Man United’s defensive performance last season, it’s not surprising that the changes were made, but there are questionable marks as to whether enough has been done to ensure that the 12-month mistakes are not repeated.
Colliemore criticizes the lack of defensive signatures from Man United
Speaking in his exclusive catch-offside column, Stan Colliemore gave his views on Man United’s Lammen’s signature and their decision not to sign a new defender.
“I’m surprised Man United didn’t throw a hat in the ring for Donnarma. Winners, excellent shot stoppers, good defensive marshaller. In terms of Lammen, along with goalkeepers who have not been tested at the elite level – and the Belgian league is not at the elite level.
“As for Emi Martinez’s scenario… do you think he was a good goalkeeper for them? Yes, I think he was a very good goalkeeper for Man United, considering this type of goalkeeper they brought in.
“But just because I brought in Cunha, Mbeumo and Sesko a few weeks ago, there’s nothing that suggested I was wrong in this column. It all solved the problem. There’s a creative problem there. There’s three offensive issues.
“I think Manchester United is interesting, but I don’t think there’s a guaranteed notion that defense and rookie goalkeepers are better than last season.”
