Craig Jones doesn’t seem to be that happy with the UFC BJJ.
The multi-time grappling champion, who runs Craig Jones Invitational, aims for a new, derivative UFC promotion featuring top Brazilian jiu-jitsu athletes. With the first major event coming off from Las Vegas on Wednesday, Jones has released a sarcasmy video hoping for a new promotion.
“I think this UFC BJJ is very personal, but their finale today hopes for all their success in the world,” Jones said on his Instagram account. “Obviously they stole the pits, the rules, the judges, they have staff blocked our event work, but I hope the finale gets off today for a big deal.
“I hope you all tune to see my ideas come true on the UFC YouTube channel.”
Jones’ own CJI event will also be held in Las Vegas, with the next card scheduled for August at Thomas and Mac Center, where Australian grapplers face off against Olympic gold wrestler Gable Steveson in the main event.
Obviously, he believes the UFC has taken a lot of elements from his show for the launch of UFC BJJ.
In the video, Jones closes his complaints by firing a rocket launcher with a photo of the new UFC BJJ belt being handed out to winners at Wednesday’s event, as well as a mannequin featuring the face of UFC CEO Dana White.
“f*ck ufc,” cried Jones before the mannequin exploded.
He is clearly unhappy with how UFC BJJ is doing business, but Jones maintains close ties with many top fighters in the promotion. In fact, Jones worked a lot with new UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddarena before beating Beral Muhammad in May and hone his grappling skills.
Jones may love fighter jets, but he certainly doesn’t seem to have much love for the UFC these days.
