The Glasgow Rangers will return to premiership action this weekend after mid-week heroes in the Europa League.
This has become a recurring theme for Ibrox’s part over the past few seasons, as it reached the last 16 competitions of each season except one since 2019/20. Although they competed in the Champions League during the 2022/23 season.
The tie with Aberdeen is virtually dead rubber for Light Blues. Because it will finish second at the table regardless of what happens this weekend.
All eyes are on the return leg against Athletic Bilbao, Spain on Thursday evening. A 0-0 result in the first leg where Robin’s propper was sent off 12 minutes later means Liam Kelly saved the penalty, but that GERS has a chance to fight to advance to the semi-finals.
However, there were a few poor performers during the first leg. This should force Barry Ferguson to make one or two changes, especially with return tie in mind.
One player to be dropped against Don is Cyriel Dessers, who was gross against the La Liga side.
Numbers and Siriel Deser’s Game of Bilbao
The 30-year-old was tasked with leading the line in place of Hamza Igamane.
Nevertheless, Deserz had scored against Manchester United and Fenerbahce, but hoped he could repeat his feat against the Spanish opposition.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have the best Light Blues game. Usually, the Deserrs missed a big opportunity, but they couldn’t even register a single shot with the target in 85 minutes on the pitch.
The striker managed to take 18 touches, completing four of the 10 passes, winning only 40% of the total duel contested against Bilbao.
Despite his decent goals scored for the club, he has scored 45 goals in 102 appearances, but he will always be a point of discussion among the fanbase.
Assistant manager Neil McCann said last week about the striker: “Ciriel Deserz always divides his views because he misses opportunities, but this is the life of a striker. I was very proud of him after the game because he didn’t stop pushing and running.
That said, should he replace it now?
Why should Siriel Deserz be dropped on the Ranger?
In December, journalist Scott Bradley criticized the striker, saying, “I had a lot of patience with Ciriel Deserz, but the Ranger needs to cut off his relationship with him in January. He’s the most frustrating player I’ve seen at Ibrox.
The Rangers didn’t move him during the January transfer period, but it could be that he could move in the summer.
With changes expected ahead of the Aberdeen clash, Ferguson has been keen to give minutes to those who haven’t been featured that often in recent weeks.
Will this allow Igaman to see him return to the start xi? He will need a few minutes on his feet next Thursday before Game 2. Igamane already scored once against Don this season, earning a comfortable 3-0 victory in January.
Before his winner against Celtic mid-March, it was his final premier goal, and in recent weeks he had a slight slump in his form.

But the overall feeling is that his maiden season with the Rangers was overwhelmingly successful. Over 40 matches in all club competitions, the 22-year-old scored 14 goals and earned three assists.
This serves as a target contribution once every 2.3 matches. Given how little he had arrived last summer, he proved that many of his critics were wrong.
The past few weeks. Ferguson has deployed Igaman to the left, offering Dessers as a major option from the center.
Moroccan International is in top form, especially when operating in a central role, as his hold-up play is far better than his senior teammates.
In fact, journalist Joshua Barry pointed out after the middle of the week that Igamane successfully made nine passes/carries in a 15-minute cameo at Ibrox.
In comparison, Deserz managed eight successful passes/carries over 85 minutes of action on the pitch. It is clear that it is far better for the youngsters to link plays and bring the ball to the final third, and much more energetic.
By starting him against Aberdeen, the centre forward will get some important minutes on his feet before the second game against Bilbao he has to start.

Football Fancast’s Chalkboard series presents tactical discussions centered around global games.
A goal or two for Pitodry’s outfit will certainly strengthen his confidence, that’s certainly true.
Football Insider reported last month that Everton was about to make an African sense move when the summer transfer window opened in a few months.
The fees have not been mentioned yet, but anyone arriving as the Rangers’ new permanent manager is definitely considering maximizing their profits, as if they have the funds to work this summer.
And how about Deserts? Will the new boss hold his services? It depends on his playing style and whether he has range on the first team in the next semester.
Whatever happens, Igaman will need to be used to lead the line, especially against Bilbao next week. Swapping the Deserts on a trip to the North this afternoon must be one change Ferguson has to make, especially if he wants to lead the Ibrox side to the second European semi-final in just three years.
