2025 Motogp Rookie Fermin Aldeguer won his first premier class podium at the French Grand Prix after a race the Spaniards said they had “funs of fun.”
The Aldeguer started in the second row and was in the main group in the first part of the race where the front runners were in the slick.
Pitting the lap behind Mark Marquez and Alex Marquez, the Gresini Racing rookie lost time at the pit stop before recovering to score the podium for the first time in his short premier-class career.
He also marked the first double endorsement of Aldeguir’s career, finishing third behind the Marquez brothers in Saturday’s sprint.
“Today is more special than yesterday because the podiums in long races are more important,” Aldeguer told a post-race press conference at Le Mans.
“I am very happy because we have arrived with good progress. I am certainly a newcomer and need to be calm, but I am very pleased with the work I am doing, how I manage all the situation today.
“After a good fight with Slick, I followed Mark (Marquez) in the first part, but when I continued on another rap with Slick, I think I lost a lot of time.
“I was a little more nervous, but managed well.
“Also, I don’t have much experience when I changed my bike in the rain, but the lap-by-lap has gotten better. Finishing on the podium today is incredible for me.”
Aldeguer added that the amount of races he was running wet is daunting to begin with, but he was pleased that he was calm in a new situation for him.
“It was raining, I watched the laps and had to do another 20 laps. The track wasn’t in its best, my feelings weren’t perfect, but I remained calm and I put a little experience on my bike.
That approach allowed him to get caught up in the first Maverick Vinaru and then Pedro Acosta, taking the podium.
“I pushed 100% (to catch Acosta),” he said.
“It’s certainly within the limits, because today’s fourth finish would be good for me too, but my pace was good, so I felt good on the bike.
“If I were late, I would lose focus and crash.
“But at that moment I was just thinking about getting to the podium.
“I saw that Pedro (Acosta) didn’t have much grip so I pushed 100% and arrived, but it’s within the limit (inside).”
