Fernando Alonso made an extraordinary rant to Team Radio after the 2025 F1 Singapore Grand Prix.
Alonso finished in eighth place on the Marina Bay Street Circuit just behind Lewis Hamilton, who was nursing brake issues on the closing lap.
Hamilton was trying out Kimi Antoneri for the fifth time, but encountered a braking problem at the end of the race.
As a result, Hamilton lost a fair amount of time and was under pressure from Alonso on the final lap.
Hamilton’s seventh place finish is also threatened due to excessive warnings of track limit warnings in the final part of the race caused by braking issues.
Finishing just behind Hamilton, Alonso demonstrated that the seven-time world champion was allowed to finish the race without effectively working the brakes.
Alonso’s radio rant
Given his slow pit stop, after finishing eighth, Alonso quickly turned his attention to Hamilton’s braking issues.
Alonso said on Team Radio:
“Is it safe to drive without brakes? Ah, he…”
His engineer replied: “Yeah, no, no, we agree, we agree, we are checking track limits etc. You have a margin there. You do switch warmup, mates, and switch warmup.
Alonso added: “But this requires you to get a P7. That means you can’t drive, like you would if you were on track.
Alonso has a valid point about safety, but it’s not uncommon to finish a problematic race.
Hamilton won at the 2020 British Grand Prix by drilling holes in his car and ran half-laps with three working tires.
The good news for Alonso is that he returned to Aston Martin teammate Lance before he went for a walk in the driver’s championship.
