Don’t just be fighter jets. …I’ll become one of the battle nerds.
Founded in 2014 by Caio Borralho and his coach Pablo Sucupira, the Fighting Geek appeared as one of the best martial arts gyms with many emerging stars including Carlos prizes, Mauricio Ruffy, UFC 314’s Jean Silva and Borralho himself.
Even casual fans who don’t necessarily follow the gyms that a particular fighter represents, combat nerds can easily be identified by signature glasses that are usually tapered together at the center.
Speaking to John Gooden via the UFC Fight Pass YouTube channel, Sucupira shared the philosophy behind the rising team of top prospects.
“Almost every fighter wants to be a little smarter, and many nerds want to be a little brave,” Supira said. “The concept is to be smart and brave. If you’re both, you’re a combat nerd.”
Fighting otaku will take over the octagon in April
Two of the biggest names of combat geeks will be active this month. First, Jansilva returns inside the octagon within two months when removed from the fourth straight knockout of the octagon. “Lord” scored a first round knockout against Mercik Baghdasarian. After the victory he called out the controversial featherweight standout Blythe Mitchell.
A few days later, Dana White confirmed that Mitchell had called him to fight Silva at UFC 314 in Miami. Silva was happy to accept it.
Two weeks later, Carlos Pleetz will step into the main event spotlight on April 26th for a clash with Ian Machado Garry at UFC Kansas City.
Originally, Pleats was scheduled to face Jeff Neal at UFC 314, but “Hand of Steel” was forced to resign from the last minute moments. Instead of hunting for late alternatives, Promotion chose to push back the star’s return in a few weeks, in order to pay homage to Neil and secure him for a more interesting opponent.
Currently, the plate is the 13th place candidate for welterweight. Winning the “future” in Missouri, he surges himself into the top 10, bringing one big victory from a shot with the 170-pound crown.
