Attempts to hire a new head coach for the New York Knicks are ongoing, with some missteps along the way.
After firing Tom Thibodeau, the New York Knicks’ first course of action was to try and poach a coach who already worked for other NBA teams.
The Knicks requested permission to speak to the head coaches of five teams around the league, and were denied by all five.
One of these was Ime Udoka. He later signed a new contract with the Houston Rockets. Four others were Chris Finch, Billy Donovan, Jason Kidd and Quinn Snyder.
Former NBA star Jeff Teague is not a fan of the Knicks strategy and has questioned their decision to say goodbye to Tom Thibodeau.
As a former Atlanta Hawks player, he says he was shocked by their futile attempts to talk to Quinsnyder.
Speaking to the rich Eisenshaw, Teague commented: “When they called Quinn Snyder in Atlanta, that’s my guy, my guy in Quinn, my team in Atlanta, that’s when we’re in desperation.”
“We didn’t even have the best season, and now they call about Quinn and grab it right now. Relax.”
Teague is confident that Snyder will be in Atlanta for long distances and signed a five-year contract in 2023.
He said: “Quinn is not going anywhere. I was offended when they were called to him for sale. We hired him and locked him up in Atlanta.
“New York should have kept the tib,” he added.
The New York Knicks have four candidates in the interview phase. These include available head coaches Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins who were fired by the Kings and Grizzlies in past seasons.
Timberwolves assistant Mika Neelli and Pelicans assistant James Borrego are also talking to the Knicks.
There is no time slot set for the Knicks to make decisions, and it is unclear whether reservations will be made prior to free agency.
