Enea Bastianini’s eventful French MotoGP weekend ended with FIM Stewards handing the Tech3 KTM rider a long lap penalty in the next round at Silverstone.
The Italian, ordered to drop two positions for “irresponsible riding” while fighting Jack Miller in the Sprint, was among the 13 riders who were given the mandatory double-long lap penalty to pit at the end of the sighting lap at the rebooted Grand Prix.
Before he could offer that penalty, Bastianini lost control in the first Chicane and took out former factory Ducati teammate Francesco Bagnaia.
Both were remounted and Bastianini completed a double long lap.
Bastianini then crashed again on turn 14, resuming once more before pitting Dryiku.
However, during the bike change, Bastianini had exceeded the speed limit in the pit lane…and received another double lap penalty. After offering that penalty, he finally finished a race A lap down on the 13th.
However, previous incidents with Bagnaia returned to haunt Bastianini when Fim Steward later imposed a long rap penalty on his next event…

“At 14:13:47, we found that Rider #63 was riding in an irresponsible way that caused a crash involving him, during the MotoGP™ race at the Michelin Grand Prix de France at 3 turns 3.
“This is considered an irresponsible riding that violates certain instructions given to MotoGP competitors and teams and poses a risk to other competitors. Therefore, it is an infringement of Article 1.21.2 of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Regulations.
Sanctions:
“For the reasons mentioned above, the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel has placed a long lap penalty. The long lap penalty will be provided by the riders at the next Grand Prix race in the Championship*…”
Penalty explanation
“Following the penalty protocol issued to the team, this action was considered the start of the MGP-CC5 type: race/opening lap. Actions that cause dangerous situations to multiple riders, and/or as the first crime of the season, the appropriate penalty in this case is due to a double lengthy penalty.
Bagnaia crashed from fourth in the sprint and finished the race in 16th place. That is, they were left without points on the MotoGP weekend in France.
