Remy Gardner says his expectations for 2025 haven’t changed “so much” after finishing on the podium in Race 2 in the third round of Assen’s world superbike season.
The GRT Yamaha rider ran fourth in the Assen race 2 closure stage, just behind the final podium Alvaro Bautista, but benefited from the penultimate technical issues of Nicolo Brega, whose Italians retired from the lead.
Gardner was then promoted to third place, taking his first voyage of the 2025 season and fourth place in Yamaha.
However, this situation meant that he had not drawn any conclusions from the results as to what it meant for the outcome of the season.
“Not so much,” Gardner said when asked by Worldsbk.com whether the predictions for the rest of the season will be changed by a podium finish.
“Hopefully we can bring this confidence into the next round, but certainly we need to do a lot of work and understand on the bike that needs to be improved.
“But hopefully it will give the team a greater confidence for Yamaha and we can keep pushing.”
Still, the Australians were pleased to have the results after the difficult ending of 2024 and the beginning of this season.
“Great,” Gardner said. “Last season had a really tough ending, and I finished the season with a broken wrist.
“So we are happy to finally get a good result again, and we have regained confidence.
“But definitely (an easy start to the season): We finished Portimao on Sunday with a crash, hurting my shoulder (and) the last few weeks really hurt so I was happy to come here and manage it.
“It wasn’t even an easy weekend. The choice of tires, the setup made it a little more difficult. Today we put it all together. There was a bit of luck and the podium was there at the end.”
