Former Los Angeles catcher Yasmani Grandal could retire after signing a minor league contract with the Boston Red Sox this spring.

Grandal, 36, spent just two months with the Red Sox before leaving the Woosox during the Road Series on Tuesday. The next day, Boston officially put him on a restricted list.
“At this point it looks like he’s likely to leave and potentially cut them,” Usox manager Chad Tracy told MasLive’s Katie Morrison O’Day earlier this week. “We spoke (Monday), and I knew he was going to pack up… His response was, ‘It’s time to be daddy.’ ”
Grandal hit .256 on two home runs, hitting 16 runs and hit .770 OPS in 23 games for Worcester. The veteran has not played in big league games this season, but was briefly called when Red Sox catcher Connor Wong broke his finger.
During the offseason, it was reported that Grandal was considering retirement before signing with an American League candidate. He had previously rejected an offer from the Atlanta Braves last winter.
Grandal spent the 2024 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, hitting .228 with nine home runs in 72 games and 27 RBIs.
Grandal wore Blue from 2015 to 2018. During the backstop ‘ tenure, the rest of the major league baseball showed full potential.
Grandal was selected for his first All-Star appearance with the , helping LA win four division titles and two National League pennants.
During four seasons with the , Grandal reduced .238/.337/.453 with 89 Homer, 245 RBI and .790 OPS.
Grandal played for the , San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates throughout his 13-year MLB career at the major league level.
