Former Liverpool star Trent Alexander Arnold gave a heartfelt tribute to the late Diogo Jota after last night’s match for Real Madrid.
It wasn’t easy for Alexander Arnold to appear on the pitch due to yesterday’s big game at the Club World Cup, just 48 hours after the tragic news of Jota’s death in a car accident.
Alexander Arnold and Jota have been Liverpool teammates for five years, and England International described him as “very close friends” when he sent thoughts and prayers to his family.
See below as the clearly emotional Alexander Arnold has revealed how much Jota means to him and how difficult it is to hear this sad news…

“To wake up to such news is really, really striking. That’s something you never expect,” said Alexander Arnold.
“He was a very close friend and the person who lit up all the rooms when he was there. I’ve shared a dressing room with him for five years and have great memories with him on and off the pitch.
He added:
The Liverpool player attended Diogo Jota’s funeral yesterday.
Liverpool’s past and present attended the funeral of Jota and his brother Andre, who were killed when he crashed in Portugal yesterday.
Virgil van Dick and Jordan Henderson were among the names that existed, but his former Portuguese teammate Cristiano Ronaldo made the difficult decision not to attend.
Liverpool fans have also left flowers outside Anfield to pay tribute to Jota. Alexander Arnold imagines he’s trying to make time to spend with Real Madrid at the Club World Cup.
