Former Manchester United star Nani feels Bruno Fernandes is a “great player” for the club, but he still hasn’t won many games because of his team-mate.
Fernandes has been Man United’s standout player since joining the club from Sporting Lisbon in 2020, and it’s safe to say that if the rest of the team back then had been closer to his level, the team would probably be better now.
Nani is a big fan of his fellow Portuguese player, but says it’s complicated that other players aren’t performing to the same high standard.
Nani talks about Bruno Fernandes and Manchester United
Still, Nani suggested in an interview with Give Me Sport that he is optimistic that new signings such as Brian Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha will soon be able to contribute to United, which could lead to “great” results.
“Bruno Fernandes is a great player,” Nani said. “He’s a player I know well because I played with him at Sporting and he already had a hunger for goals.
“His ability to score goals is great. He is a player who gives everything on the field. But as we have seen in the last few years, he could not win the title because it is not about one player, it is about the team. So if you do not have a team of the same level, everything will be complicated.”
“I believe that if the team comes together and starts playing their best football, everyone will shine, like Matheus Cunha, Bruno, Mbeumo. All the players will start to show their talent and it will be great.”
Can Manchester United turn things around?
Fernandes will undoubtedly be a key player for MUFC in the coming months, but it remains to be seen whether that will be enough, with things generally going in a very bad direction under Ruben Amorim.
There are bound to be questions about Amorim’s suitability for the job at United, and Fernandes will need to make some tactical adjustments to get the best out of him.
