There was nothing too positive about Francesco Bagnaia during the shocking MotoGP weekend in Indonesia.
The Italians remained devastated after plunging from a perfect double victory at Motegi, returning to old GP24 parts to last in the Mandalica Sprint and Grand Prix race.
Bagnaia’s nightmare weekend was completed when he crashed from behind the field on lap 8 of Sunday’s race.
The only sliver of the good news was that the smoke inhaling from his death mossici on the way to victory in Japan was not at the terminal.
“I didn’t know about smoke,” Bagnaia said in Motegi. “I felt a little less performance on the final four laps at the exits of some corners, but the lap times were there.

Francesco Bagnaia, 2025 Japan Motogp
Bagnaia, which first used the “Motegi” engine on Saturday in Catalonia, was installed again on one of the machines in Indonesia on Friday and Saturday mornings.
His other GP25s were active since Qatar and were powered by an older engine used in their final practice in Japan. Bagnaia then raced the “Qatar” engine in the Indonesian Sprint before switching to the Sunday Warm-Up and Grand Prix “Motegi” engine.
So far, Bagnaia has opened all seven permitted engines so far, with the first withdrawal that was first used in Catalonia when the “Motegi” engine was introduced.
All MOTOGP riders will have additional engines available in the final four rounds starting next weekend on Philip Island.
Therefore, Ducati, Aprilia and KTM are limited to eight engines of the same design over a full 22-round season. Honda and Yamaha from Concession Group D have 10 engine changes available for each rider, allowing you to change the design freely.
The following list shows how many engines each rider has “opened” and “retracted” so far…
