Freddie Freeman solidified his name with lore after hitting a walk-off grand slam in Game 1 of the World Series. The 2024 season ended with high notes, but there was a time when the superstar considered retiring.
Shortly after the All-Star break, Freeman’s 3-year-old son Maximus went in and out of the hospital. On August 1, Freddie and Chelsea Freeman announced that their son had been diagnosed with Guilanbale syndrome.
The ‘ baseman missed a series of games due to fears of his son’s health, and Freeman even considered leaving baseball amid a family emergency.
“If Max doesn’t get better, I don’t know if Freddie will return to playing,” says Chelsea Freeman. “So it’s a miracle that Max gets better on its own and to be able to end the way he did for Freddie… we feel that’s what we need.”
The journey to becoming a World Series MVP was not an easy task. Beyond the game, Freeman endured one of the most frightening moments for his parents.
However, Chelsea Freeman recently made a positive update on Maximus, who just celebrated his fourth birthday.
“I didn’t even know if I could sign up for Little League a few months ago,” Chelsea said via Jaclyn Hendrix of the New York Post. “He’s still undergoing physical therapy and is probably trying to do it until July, so he’s on track with a year of recovery from Gilangbare, but he’s definitely doing great things.”
Freeman’s Walk-off Grand Slam was an unforgettable moment for fans, but it was also a symbol of strength for his family.
Manager Dave Roberts said, “The biggest baseball moment I’ve ever witnessed.”
