Freddie Freeman was originally listed in the first day lineup for the Los Angeles in Tokyo, Japan. However, the eight-time All-Star first bass man was scratched as he handled the discomfort of a left rib rib rib from the starting lineup within an hour of his first pitch.

After the game, manager Dave Roberts said Freeman’s injuries were “not as serious as postseason rib injuries. Roberts added that the injury is in the same place that rib cartilage Freeman tore off during the ‘ World Series run, but he is currently not worried about Freeman’s recovery.
It is unclear whether Freeman is healthy enough to play in Wednesday’s Series finale with the Chicago Cubs. But it’s on his side as Freeman said he’s 75% chance of playing, according to Bill Plunkett on the Orange County Register.
In addition to Freeman, the were back home early as the three-time World Series champion outfielder beat shortstop Mookie Betts and dealt with a lingering illness. Even without two top players in the lineup, the were able to beat the Cubs 4-1 in the season-opening match.

Freeman also played through an ankle sprain in the postseason. The injury sidelined him for three regular season games and several games in the NLDS and NLCS.
He was eventually able to play in the World Series, but an ankle injury required Freeman to undergo surgery in December.
However, Freeman did not allow broken rib cartilage or ankle injuries to prevent performance in the 2024 postseason.
The three-time Silver Slugger began a walk-off grand slam in Game 1 against the New York Yankees, setting the remaining tone of the World Series. Given his performance and tenacity in the postseason, he was named the most valuable player in the 2024 World Series.
