The Dallas Mavericks continued to perform well in the NBA preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Head coach Jason Kidd continued to experiment in the preseason, with Cooper Flagg given point guard duties for the Dallas Mavericks.
This time, Flagg was matched up with Gabe Vincent of the Los Angeles Lakers. After the game, Vincent gave his honest thoughts on facing the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
Even though point guard is not Flagg’s natural position, the 18-year-old has impressed the Vincent veteran.
“I think he’s a talented kid and has great athleticism. He can step in and play right away, which is difficult as a young player,” Vincent told the media.
This wasn’t the end for Vincent, as the 29-year-old guard predicted a “bright future” for Flagg.
“He can play off the ball and he made some good reads tonight. He’s an athlete and has a bright future,” Vincent added.
Barring an injury to Flagg, the Mavericks star seems destined not only to have a great rookie season, but to have a phenomenal career in the NBA.
With Kyrie Irving injured, it feels like Flagg will need to be the Mavericks’ starting point guard to start the season.
While he has had decent numbers, Vincent outplayed him in the Lakers-Mavericks game, showing that Flagg has a long way to go before becoming an elite point guard.
Flagg finished the night with 13 points, two rebounds, and three assists in 28 minutes of playing time.
Vincent, on the other hand, had 22 points and three assists in 25 minutes. Vincent led the Lakers in scoring against the Mavs in the absence of Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
