Aston Villa reportedly appeared as a late candidate to sign free agent striker Dominique Calvert Lewin following his departure from Everton after nine years of spells at Goodison Park.
Manager Unai Emery is keen to strengthen his offensive rank after the club’s almost intense summer window, and Calvert-Lewin availability offers a bargain solution.
Despite scoring just three goals in 26 league appearances last season, he’s often hamstringed him by closing 14 games with a hamstring injury, but the 28-year-old remains a proven Premier League when he fits.

The exit on the villa loan led Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio to create a gap for Emery’s team, leading the club to pursue new offensive options.
Villa legend Gabriel Agbonlahore has been speaking out by discouraging Calvert-Lewin’s move, especially when it points to club icon Ollie Watkins.
Speaking about Talksport, Agbonlahor said:
“Why are you lying? Don’t lie. Don’t dare, don’t dare? Who put it there?”
He then spoke with co-host and United fan Andy Goldstein.
“I think you’ll take (Ollie) Watkins. Are we going to get Calvert-Lewin?
Agbonlahor hopes to keep Ollie Watkins at Aston Villa
He emphasized that Watkins, Villa’s greatest Premier League top scorer of all time, remains irreplaceable in his eyes.
It’s hard to object to what Agbonlahor says about Watkins and Calvert-Lewin.
Watkins is a consistent performer of his club and a well-performing player in his country, and Calvert Lewin has suffered injuries and his goalscoring record hasn’t been great.
Villa may find it difficult to hold a star attacker this summer, especially with increasing interest in Watkins’ services.
