Devin Booker is reopening his duties as the Phoenix Suns cornerstone superstar.
The arrival of double NBA champion Kevin Durant pushed Devin Booker into the backburner for the Phoenix Suns. After all, KD is one of the greatest scorers of all time.
However, under Durant’s leadership, the Sands were unable to function well, even with the help of Bradley Beal. Well, as Durant was traded for the Houston Rockets this summer, the brass on top finally realized their mistake.
Meanwhile, Beale also agreed to acquire a deal with the Suns as she joined the Los Angeles Clippers in a two-year, $11 million deal.
At the exits of KD and Beal, they doubt Booker will continue to show loyalty to the Suns or pursue moving out of the team.
However, Booker proved to be a true one franchise player as he signed a two-year, $145 million contract extension with the Suns this summer.
While Booker has proven his loyalty, former NBA player Austin Rivers is baffled by the “incomprehensible” NBA All-Star agreement with the Suns, four times more.
“I’m happy he’s out of (Durant) Phoenix. It’s the ___ show. I don’t know what Devin is doing. He’s getting paid. Rivers said in the Ringer NBA.
In the book’s new $145 million deal, Rivers said: “That’s insane. He won the summer.”
Some praise Booker’s commitment, even if it disrupts the river. Damien Lillard, for example, loves Booker’s loyalty to the Sun, calling it “the most important thing.”
When the Suns entered a new era, experts took shots with the franchise. Many expect to struggle with loaded Western Conferences during the 2025-26 season.
One such report reached Suns and WNBA Mercury owner Mat Ishbia, who bought the franchise for $4 billion in 2023. Ishbia went out to X’s “so-called experts.”
“I’m not worried about what the so-called experts think. They’ve had us as title candidates for the past two years and were wrong at the time.
“We focus on making our fans proud by playing great as a team and building a tough, gritty basketball brand,” Ishvia said.
Over the past two seasons, the Suns have finished sixth and 11th in the West. It will be interesting to see where Booker becomes as the only superstar on the team.
