Glen Irwin slams the "armchair boka" over the Northwest 200 controversy

Glen Irwin denounced the “Armchair Voca” for comments that followed the end of the controversy of the first superbike race at the Northwest 200 on Saturday.

Michael Dunlop won his first Superbike Contest last week on Saturday’s race day at the 2025 Northwest 200, despite cutting Mother’s Cross Chicane early in the contest.

According to the rules, riders who miss Chicane must stop and lower their foot to the marker before continuing.

Peter Hickman did this at the same time, and Dunlop continued. The penalty for not following the rules is intended to be a 10-second penalty.

Dunlop was initially given a penalty for this. This was applied to the corrected time in the finish and was applied before being cancelled.

Todd and Hickman from 8ten Racing Riders were both furious at the handling of the penalty, but Dunlop felt he had been forced to Chicane.

Verdict on the Northwest 200 controversy in Glen Irwin

Irwin has been criticized by several fans over his favor over how the interaction between him and Todd was perceived, and he fought back in a lengthy social media post.

“A lot of people vomited about me on social media about what they told Davy Todd that they won a superbike race on Saturday morning,” he began.

“I was regularly checking the timing screens for the race under the big screen, mainly because I was impressed by Michael’s comeback.

“We then saw a 10-second penalty, and Michael’s position changed position compared to his track.

“Davy looked discouraged when he pulled into P2 with the Parc Ferme. I said, ‘You’ve won.’ That’s what the timing screen said.

“Davie is a family friend. Michael is one of the greatest road racers of all time and I love how he carries himself more than ever.

“Arm chair idiots who don’t have clue, you ruin the sport and regretfully understand the lack of manners and understanding on social media.

“The sport is followed by the best fans in the world. Unfortunately, you can’t praise one rider without releasing another rider in the same sentence.

“Again, I’m one of Michael’s biggest fans as he knows, and as mentioned above, Davie is a close friend.

Following the Northwest 200, Hickman suggested not returning to the event in a penalty case.
