The trade deadline is just a week away, with almost all candidates looking to add a last minute addition to their roster. The same goes for the in Los Angeles.
general manager Brandon Gomez said the organization would rule out available options despite all of the things it didn’t buy just a few months ago by deadline. He added that players tend to become more expensive as deadlines approach.

“We’ll see how these few days come out and what it all looks like, but for now, our stance hasn’t changed because we have to go out and get some extra pieces,” Gomez said.
“Prices are always crazy,” he added.
Los Angeles has acquired several talented players at past deadlines.
Last season, the landed utility man Tommy Edman and reliever Michael Kopeck on a three-team trade deal with the St. Louis Cardinals and the Chicago White Sox. Edman became the most valuable player in the National League Championship Series in 2024, but Kopek was a major part of the ‘ shutdown bullpen.
Of course, the have a clear need for the bullpen, and Gomez said the organization will consider making deals on deadlines.
“If there’s a meaningful part of moving forward, I’ve never been afraid to trade when I felt it was necessary,” Gomez said. “We will continue to evaluate. Starting next week we will see what will look like 10 days.”
When the team stands, Gomez believes it is better than the team last season, where the 2025 team won the World Series.
Los Angeles did not lose any major players from the 2024 World Series roster, with the exception of starting pitchers Walker Buhler and Jack Flaherty. However, the re-signed Tescal Hernandez, Kique Hernandez and Edman, and also acquired new talents such as Blake Snell, Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates and Heisen Kim.
“I would argue that over the long term, what Big Picture 162 (game) and potential playoff teams look like, this group is really talented and better than the team that won last year’s World Series,” Gomez said.
Los Angeles has placed third in the NL after suffering a string of losses over the past few weeks. However, the are slowly returning from the list where some of their starting pitchers were injured, and still leads the NL West.
