Despite having a 16-4 record since trading with Jimmy Butler, the Golden State Warriors may have made a mistake.
Jimmy Butler’s trade saga ended when the six times NBA All-Star joined the Golden State Warriors as part of a five-team deal.
Butler’s arrival changed teams as he won 80% of the game since the former Miami Heatstar joined the roster.
Dove gave up two draft picks to acquire services from Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroeder, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III and Jimmy. But did Dub replace the wrong player? Well, there’s a case for that.
Wiggins spent six years in the dub before it was traded with the heat. Along the way, he helped the team win the 2022 NBA Championship.
Since joining the Heat, Wiggins has been on the roll. He has an impressive score and doubts many Dub fans of his decision to say goodbye to him.
The Wigs were traded primarily to bring 22-year-old Jonathan Cuminga on the roster. For years, Cuminga has been touted as the cornerstone of the next generation of Warriors teams.
Unfortunately, Cuminga was unable to meet these expectations. Now he can’t impress fans, and head coach Steve Kerr has admitted that Kuminga won’t fit into the team.
After missing most of the season due to injury, Cuminga was unable to find a place on the team’s new roster. That’s clear from the fact that the Warriors have lost three of the last five games Kuminga played on the team.
Kuminga averages 16.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for the Warriors this season.
What has been done cannot be corrected until at least the end of this season. Unless Cuminga plays a prominent role in the Warriors’ postseason run, it’s difficult to justify him as the next face in the franchise.
So, what’s next? Well, given that he’s only 22 years old, the Warriors were able to trade him for another team in the summer.
They will ultimately move on from this experiment and can focus entirely on maximizing the current championship window with Stephen Curry as a major superstar.
Some fans will even agree to trade back with the Wiggins from the offseason heat. Of course, it would have to be on board in Miami as well, a little farther away.
The Warriors are to use Kuminga to trade with alternative players suitable for attacks that affect new Jimmy Butlers.
