Newcastle is expected to spend a lot of time this summer, and one position they plan to deal with is central defense. They missed Mark Guech in 2024 and now 12 months later, it appears they’re looking out of the Premier League in an effort to upgrade what they already have.
Newcastle hopes to secure a second Champions League qualifier in three seasons. That will open up more options to improve your team during the summer transfer period. One of them could come from Bayern Munich.
Newcastle’s interest in Kim Min Jae has been confirmed
Speaking to a soccer insider, former scout Mick Brown confirmed that Bayern defender Kim Min Jae was one of the players looking at the transfer window this summer.
“Newcastle wants to push them out of their position, and they have done so well recently, and they have finally won the trophy and appear to be entering the Champions League.
“Sven Bottman has been unlucky with injuries and Dan Byrne was great, but he is not a European-level defender and Fabian Shah is not younger, so it is an area where Newcastle feels he can improve and I would like to do it this summer.
“Kim Min Jae is a name I’ve heard recently in connection with Newcastle and he’ll be a good option. Man United wanted him before moving to Bayern.
“He brings a lot of know-how and elite level experience on this Newcastle side, which is always a huge asset for any team.
Chelsea is also said to be interested in signing Kim this summer, so it could be an interesting race between two Premier League teams chasing Champions League qualifiers.
