Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen suggests that Red Red Devils midfielder Michael Carrick could be the ideal option to replace Ruben Amorim as manager.
Carrick is currently not at work, but between the looting of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his appointment as interim manager of Ralf Rangnick, he had the spell as the caretaker manager of Man UTD.
The 44-year-old has since won the spell to take charge of Middlesbrough in the Championship, and was impressed there after a disappointing 10th place finish last season before eventually losing his job.
Meulensteen knows Carrick well. He is part of the staff of Ir Alex Ferguson, and although former England International was a star player at Old Trafford, Carrick has known many of this current team since his days as the coaching staff.
Speaking to Betvictor, as quoted in The Daily Mail, Meulensteen revealed why he felt that Carrick would be the best candidate to replace the struggling Amorim.
Will Michael Carrick be the next Manchester United manager?
Discussing Carrick’s qualifications, Meulensteen said:
“Obviously, Michael Carrick still knows that there are quite a few players there when he was there, so he still has good insider information. He clearly knows the club.
“But the key is that you have obviously a clear idea, but you need to put some kind of structure that players buy and a structure that will spark from the players. They’re not bad players, so there are a lot of good players out there.
“If they play in a system that suits them, I’m sure they’ll play really at their best. I think you can see great Manchester United. Maybe Michael can be a guy.
“It’s not magic. It’s more common sense than anything, that’s it, and Carrick has a lot of it.”
Is it time for United to plunder Reuben Amorim?

It remains to be seen how long Amorim will be given at United, but things aren’t going well.
The Portuguese tactician was impressed with former Club Sports Lisbon, so there is probably arguing that he would need a little more time.
Still, MUFC is not like a club that can afford to wait too long, and it is clear that Amorim hasn’t had any results and performance happening in the way he set up his team.
Carrick may fit more with the kind of style he succeeds at United, but he will also become gamble due to his lack of relative experience.
