The New York Knicks have a lot to do after running their best postseason of 25 years.

Many were hoping that the Knicks would reach the 2025 NBA Finals at least, but the team suffered a loss in the 4-2 Eastern Conference final by the Indiana Pacers.

As a result, the team’s journey was over. Coach Tom Thibodeau became the responsibility of the organization and was eventually fired, but he was not the only one, not the only one.

Either way, fans are hoping the franchise will make a spectacular comeback next season. However, it feels like the Knicks are trying this even if veteran guard Cameron Payne isn’t on the roster.

The Knicks may not have won the NBA championship since 1973, but playing for the franchise remains a dream for many.

After all, the experience of being at Madison Square Garden and playing basketball in front of thousands of passionate fans is not a small deal.

Veteran guard Campaine won the opportunity during the 2024-25 NBA season. The 30-year-old recently shared an Instagram message to his fans following the Knicks playoff exit.

“10th year!! The way we wanted wasn’t over, but we had a great run! I didn’t expect to play in the garden for the Knicks of my career, but the world works in a mysterious way,” writes Payne.

He added: “I couldn’t thank you for being able to join this team and being part of this team. It’s one of the best fans and best cities I’ve become part of!

Payne may have only had one season with the Knicks, but he seemed extremely grateful to be part of the iconic NBA franchise.

In his only season with the team, Payne averaged 6.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game in 72 appearances. He did so on average 15.1 minutes per game.

However, Payne’s playtime was dramatically reduced to just 7.3 minutes per game during playoff time. Obviously, he averaged 2.1 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.6 assists per postseason game.

As for him next, the $3.0 million deal expired as he plans to become an unlimited free agent in Payne’s one year. Now that Coach Thibodeau has been fired, Payne could return to the Knicks in another deal, given that his playing time issues could be resolved.

Otherwise, Pain will still be a great backup guard, so you’ll find a new home earlier than later.
